SIXTH AND LAST PERIOD
Back to the Beginnings
Oil paintings
1988-1990This period coincides with the decline of Sheybani’s health due to pancreatic cancer. In this period, he looked back in time and used sketches from southern Iran and those he made for the scenes of his scenarios and his books or films scenarios. The predominance of geometric cubist shapes and interlocking planes in his work, combined with figurative components, distinguishes his latter periods from early ones. These oil paintings' bright, vivid color scheme gives the feeling of a mid-day scene. Toward the end, however, more surreal elements are present in his paintings in place of the cohesion created by the unity of objects and colors, and these lessened the structural significance of his paintings (Nasir). Sheybani experimented with an array of such distinct styles as neo-realism, expressionism, abstract, and cubism painting. His works exhibit visible gravitation toward figurative style at the end (Encyclopedia Iranica).
